Pacific Beach and La Jolla

Lovely La Jolla Cove - Studly surfers in Pacific Beach and swanky shops in La Jolla will make for a memorable ride up the coast.

A Night at the South Bay Drive-In, Imperial Beach:

Over the Coronado Bridge, across the happy isle of Coronado, down the Silver Strand Expressway, past the training grounds for buff Navy Seals, to the South Bay Drive-In in Imperial Beach. It’s one of the few remaining drive-in movie theaters in California. One night soon it will host the San Diego Sqooterheads.

Ride to the Border: Tecate, Mexico

It’s a winding, scenic road through San Diego’s back-country to the border where the charming Mexican hamlet of Tecate awaits.

Movie Screening: Quadrophenia!

This film from 1979, based on the album by The Who, is a look at young, scooter-riding Mods in 1960’s England. It’s a scootering classic with awesome scenes of Lambrettas and Vespas taking center stage. The film is even credited with spawning a major Mod revival in California in the 1980s (see “San Diego’s Scootering History,” above). Sqooterheads will gather at a member’s home to view a special edition of the film shipped over directly from the U.K.
